Cocaine Counseling Programs at the Central Treatment Unit (CTU) provides outpatient
evaluation and treatment for individuals with a special focus on cocaine treatment. The clinic focuses on
traditionally under-served populations with a culturally sensitive program emphasizing psychiatric and
psychological consultation, motivational enhancement and relapse prevention.
Population Served -
The Central Treatment Unit (CTU) is an outpatient substance abuse clinic
specializing in the treatment of cocaine abuse. CTU provides counseling to adult men and women in the
Greater New Haven area with a special emphasis on populations that have been traditionally underserved,
e.g., women and minority groups.
Treatment Protocols -
Treatment is provided by a highly skilled professional staff including licensed and
credentialed clinicians from a variety of disciplines. Patients can expect to address their drug use in an
interpersonal context from multiple perspectives. These include relapse prevention, motivational
enhancement and the twelve-step approach. Community reinforcement techniques are used to reward
sober behaviors.
Treatment Expectations -
Close attention is paid to such basics as attendance to help maintain the
therapeutic connection and further the engagement process. Frequent drug screens are used as a clinical
intervention to both support abstinence and clarify current use.
Hours of Operations -
The clinic is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. and
Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Specialized Services - Supervised child-care is provided for children of women attending the groups in the
women's program. A bilingual psychologist is available part time to conduct evaluations and treatment of
monolingual, Spanish speaking patients.
